Wind Star & Wind Spirit’s New Look

Elegant and chic… inviting and luxurious. You’ve already seen Wind Surf’s  beautifully renovated accommodations and corridors during Phase 1 of its refurbishment, and now it’s time for the Wind Star and Wind Spirit. We couldn’t be more excited about unveiling our smaller yachts’ luxurious new look and we want to hear from all of you what you think!

Our $18 million refurbishment plan is a dramatic, fleet-wide initiative which creates the most extraordinary boutique yacht experience. The attention to detail and quality will truly make you feel like you are sailing aboard your own private yacht, with exceptional service to boot! From new furniture, upholstery, art, lighting, wall coverings, carpeting, ceiling finishes, window treatments and floor coverings, the new décor – complete with warm wood finishes – elevates our yachts to a level that is truly “180 Degrees from Ordinary.”

Here are the details:

Wind Star and Wind Spirit will be undergoing complete renovations of their staterooms, owner’s suite and corridors following their respective Costa Rica and Caribbean seasons. Staterooms will be transformed with new leather headboards, stately arm chairs, linen wall coverings, new lighting features, elegant window coverings, plush wool carpeting, art work, stylish bed cushions, and luxurious bed throws.  The owner’s suite on each yacht will be additionally outfitted with new furniture that is easily convertible to lounging, dining, or accommodating a third occupant.

In addition to accommodations and corridors, Wind Star’s public spaces will also be renovated including The Restaurant, Veranda, Lounge, Pool Bar, Library, and WindSpa.

  • The Restaurant will receive a complete makeover to create the excitement and drama of an exclusive destination restaurant with luxurious neutral tones and curved design elements.
  • The Veranda will be renewed with new lighting, fresh “market-style” buffet arrangements and reconfigured indoor/outdoor seating.
  • The Lounge will be contemporized with new furniture, seating arrangements, window treatments and the addition of a piano bar, creating an ideal, welcoming space for evening entertainment.
  • The Pool Bar will be redesigned to offer a more engaging and upscale social experience and to create additional alfresco seating for sunset dining at Candles Grill.
  • The renovations to the Library space will create an intimate, luxurious cocoon for more contemplative pursuits.
  • WindSpa will also receive an interior soft goods update, to reflect the sophistication and elegance of relaxing with spa treatments at sea.

After the completion of work, both yachts begin their Mediterranean seasons with Wind Spirit starting April 15, 2012, and Wind Star beginning April 29, 2012.

Wind Spirit’s and Wind Surf’s public spaces will be refurbished in November 2012 before the start of their December Caribbean seasons with Wind Spirit receiving the same public space refurbishments as Wind Star. Wind Surf’s renovation encompasses the Lounge, The Restaurant, Degrees, Veranda, Compass Rose, WindSpa, Yacht Club and Pool Bar.

  • In the Lounge, wall-to-wall carpeting will be replaced with hard flooring accented with inset rugs, a contemporary mix of furniture, and lighter color palette.
  • The Restaurant will be completed with a new seating layout, all new soft goods, and state-of-the art wine display and storage.
  • Degrees Restaurant will be transformed into a Mediterranean bistro, anchored by a central wine bar for counter dining as well as an inviting area to relax before and after dinner.  Wine tastings and cooking demonstrations will also be conducted here.
  • The Veranda’s outdoor seating will be significantly expanded, creating an ideal mid-ship area for enjoying breakfast and lunch alfresco.  The interior will include a new buffet, new lighting, and epicurean style display counters.
  • The Compass Rose will be reconfigured to open up expansively to the adjoining outdoor deck, and its interior completely renovated to reflect the sophisticated elegance of a private club.
  • The Pool Bar will sport new awnings for additional shade, new deck furniture, and improved outdoor dining layout for Candles Grill.

We’ve been three times on the Windsurf and will be trying out one of the smaller yachts this July. We’ll be on the Windstar —Athens to Rome re-visiting some ports we know and experiencing some new ones.
I understand that the Windstar will be completely finished by July. The pictures look just wonderful and we can hardly wait.I shall be celebrating my birthday whilst on board so that will make it extra special.

We just came home from my first cruise with Windstar.  Never could have imagined the beauty and relaxation of a cruise this way.  I had always wanted to but now that I have, will for sure be going again.  The crew are they most wonderful and friendly.  Thank you, Nancy Park

We have just completed our 10th week aboard the Spirit since our first cruise in the fall of 2009…we love her just as she is, but are thrilled to know she will be upfitted.  We are looking forward to the piano bar, especially!  The crew is always awesome!  We are Windstar fans!

We had a lovely cruise on the Wind Surf in December, the second week for the new renovated staterooms.  They were absolutely lovely!  I think we just will have to go back this winter and see the renovations in the public areas.  The cruise was wonderful.  Just one request, Windstar….Don’t renovate the crew, they are the absolute best in the business!

After four cruises with Windstar I was starting to think the ships/yachts were starting to look a little tired and dated.  Great to see Windstar also recognized this and are doing something about it. Love to cruise on Windstar and very much enjoy getting into small ports of call without the cattle car larger ships.  Keep up the good work.

We’ve sailed the Wind Spirit from Instanbul to Athens and it was spectacular then. Now we want to book for the Costa Rica/Panama cruise in Dec. 2013.  The refit looks fantastic, we can hardly wait to get back on board!

We are pleased to read you enjoyed your cruise and will share your comments with our operations department. Thank you also for your suggestion on how to curb the behavior of our guests who choose to smoke in their cabins. We appreciate your effort to notify our staff. We do have a policy against smoking in our staterooms and will consider stronger penalties for our guests who break this rule. We hope to see you again soon, and would love to see some photos/stories from your cruise at Facebook.com/WindstarCruises!

Thanks so much for your interest, and we hope to see you with us next fall!

The Wind Star will be completely renovated by the end of April 2012. The average temperature in Costa Rica in November is around 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally we always sail in regions at the times of year that will be most comfortable for our guests.

Hi there, we are so sorry that you feel disappointed. We had hoped to have the complete refurbishment of the Spirit finished by the time you sailed, but even the best laid plans are sometimes required to change. We are sure you will still have an excellent adventure on the Spirit, and will enjoy relaxing in the newly refurbished staterooms!

ola. Estive no Wind Spirits em 2011 no Mediterraneo (viagem Liberty – Seguros) e gostei muito. A equipe é maravilhosa. È um veleiro estupendo. Tudo 5 estrelas… o melhor do mundo !! Obrigado pelo empenho e dedicação da vossa equipe.

Thank you for your question! Both Wind Spirit’s and Wind Surf’s public spaces won’t be refurbished until November 2012, though the staterooms will all be completed. Let us know if you have any further questions, and we look forward to welcoming you aboard whenever you decide to sail with us!

Hi,

Sorry to keep going back and forth.  I’m happy to do this off-line, if that works better. What I’m getting is conflicting information between the blog and the customer service folks on the phone.  On that end, I’m being told that the Surf goes back for public area refurbishments in the Fall.  The Star and Surf will be done by the end of April, staterooms and public areas.

Thanks,

Jon

Six of us are to sail Wind Spirit ex Iistanbul on 9 June and we cant wait to see the new look.

Well done Windstar !

My husband and I just adored our first time trip on the Wind Surf in December. I could not keep my eyes shut at night when the boat was moving as I enjoyed the waves hitting the portholes sooooo much. The food was so good I put on 6 pounds…I could not say NO. One of my favourite dishes was the creme brulee oatmeal dish that was served for one breakfast. I have one suggestion though. There were two cabins on our floor that ignored the ‘no smoking’ rule. I suggest that the charge be raised to clean a cabin… Read more »

We have sailed on Wind Surf 2 times,..also once on Wind Star….loved them both.
We are looking at the Panama Canal trip in late November, 2012.  Will all of the renovations on Wind Star be completed for that voyage, or should we consider waiting until the 2013 Cost Rica season?

What are weather conditions in Costa Rica in late November?

I thought according to this article that both Wind Star and Wind Spirit would be fully refurbished by their April cruises (https://windstarblog.ua.verbinteractive.com/2011/09/windstar-launches-18-million-fleet-refurbishment-plan/). I booked the April 15 cruise on Wind Spirit, and I’m quite disappointed to find out now that the common areas will not have been refurbished by our sailing date.

We are about to book Istanbul/Athens for September.  Can we feel confident that the Wind Star will be 100% renovated?  Very excited for our first Windstar experience, but would rather wait a year if this ship’s not done.
