Windstar Cruises’ Passage Through Panama

Swim with dolphins, watch humpback whales breach from the deck of your ship, hike through a rainforest while howler monkeys swing through the trees beside you – these are the adventures that await you on our Costa Rica & Panama Canal voyages.

This year, we introduced Puerto Jimenez to our ports of call in Costa Rica. Located in the Golfo Dulce, or “Sweet Gulf,” the area is a popular location for humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles. The gulf also is one of only three tropical fjords in the world, and is lush with an amazing array of plants and animals.

So lush in fact that we brought a naturalist on board for this voyage as a resource for guest to learn more about the history of the region and its habitats.

Humpback whales migrate to Golfo Gulce every year to birth and feed their young, and dolphins are a regular and expected sight throughout the area. The deep waters of the Golfo Dulce is also home to marlin, which provides a deep sea fishing arena that is second to none. Along the shores of the gulf, beautiful palm-shaded beaches and legendary waves supply great surfing and perfect locations for soaking in the sun.

Inland, visitors are guaranteed to see some of the region’s most incredible wildlife, including monkeys, crocodiles, river otters, as well as beautiful birds, such as toucans, parrots, and hummingbirds. Nearly every port of call during this seven day cruise offers guests a selection of national parks and nature preserves to explore.
