Windstar’s Guests Chart Course for Tahiti

The sails on our yachts may help us navigate in the right direction, but it’s really you, our guests, who tell us where they want to travel. We hear you; and we’re ecstatic to announce our return to the enchanting islands of French Polynesia beginning May 2, 2014 with our newly renovated yacht Wind Spirit.

The deck of a luxury sailing yacht offers the ultimate experience of the secluded coves and turquoise lagoons of Tahiti. As always, while on board you’ll experience our chic, laid-back vibe with Windstar Cruises’ signature deck barbecue; our always active watersports platform offering everything under the sun from water-skiing to windsurfing; and when the sun goes down you can spend a candle-lit evening in one of our world-class restaurants.

While on shore, each of these mesmerizing islands has something special to offer. The week-long voyage begins in the capital city of Papeete, Tahiti as we cruise through the Society Islands of Moorea, Taha’a, Raiatea, Huahine, and Bora Bora.

Papeete

In Papeete, the world’s definition of paradise, perhaps you’ll choose to begin your Tahitian experience with a hike into the unpopulated and lush jungle-like interior of Tahiti Nui. This unspoiled world of towering waterfalls, deep flower-filled valleys, large lakes, and colossal green peaks rises more than one mile above the valley floor.

Moorea

The beauty of this unforgettable island of love lies in its drama and adventure. During our overnight stay in Moorea guests can enjoy the warm lagoon waters known for snorkeling, jetskiing, canoeing, or diving; explore the historic sites hidden under a canopy of lush forests; or relax on one of its pristine and secluded beaches.

Taha’a

This fragrant island is known for its abundance of vanilla and offers a glimpse of the traditional, tranquil life of the Tahitians. You’ll be able to set off for a day of snorkeling, fishing, swimming, and coconut picking — then finish the afternoon enjoying a traditional Tahitian motu picnic where the menu will likely include poisson cru (delectable raw tuna marinated in coconut milk and lime juice), and the impossible-to-resist coconut bread.

Raiatea

Recognized throughout Tahiti as the “Sacred Island,” Raiatea is rich with fascinating history, legend, and lore, as well as Tahiti’s most significant archeological sites such as Taputapuatea, and the rare national flower tiare apetahi, a white blossom with five petals found nowhere else on earth. If you find one of these sacred flowers during our overnight stay in Raiatea it is common to put it behind your ear, just don’t mistake which side — left side you’re taken, right if you’re looking.

Huahine

Known as the Garden of Eden — with lush forests, untamed landscape, and quaint villages — the undiscovered island of Huahini is one of French Polynesia’s best-kept secrets. Largely unaffected by the outside world, the beach of Relais Mahana offers fine sand and a deep lagoon, while Fare Village retains its authentic charm. Near Maeva are the sacred sites of the 16^th century maraes, ancient Tahitian temples.

Bora Bora

Our voyage culminates with an overnight stay on “the Romantic Island” of Bora Bora, an island paradise in the South Pacific with breathtaking secluded beaches and a quiet atmosphere that embraces visitors. However, you don’t have to confuse candle-lit serenity with boredom, as there are plenty of activities for adventure-seekers, such as a shark-feeding expedition on the lagoon. History buffs will also find their place with a plethora of World War II relics which can be seen via a driving tour around the island.

However, there’s no doubt about it, everyone will enjoy the most popular activity of all: relaxing the day away on board Wind Spirit or on shore on a secluded stretch of beach watching a brilliant sunset over the bright turquoise water.
