Pool on the bow of a Windstar Cruise ship

What to do when you are late for your Windstar cruise vacation?

“Back in October (11th – 19th to be exact), my family and I sailed on Star Legend from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica. We almost didn’t make it. Our flight should have put us in our departure port with several hours to spare, but a storm prior to our landing in Dallas had the entire airport in chaos. Our flight was delayed… and delayed a second time… and delayed a third time. I called the emergency line and let them know we would be late arriving and they took down our flight numbers to track us and told us to call back we had reached our destination. Our wheels hit the ground with only one hour before our ship departed. That meant deplaning, passport control, getting luggage, customs, and catching a cab to the port.  I had even calculated every option of catching up with the ship in another port.

I was thrilled when one of the Windstar agents said “They’re going to hold the ship as long as they can.  Get there as quickly as possible and you might make it!”  After a rather, “exhilarating” we’ll call it, cab ride we arrived a few minutes after departure time to see our ship was still there.  We ran down the pier and were greeted by the Purser who told us we could slow down – we still had a few minutes.  I was so happy I could’ve cried.

We enjoyed an amazing 8 days of relaxation and adventure aboard the beautiful ship.  As usual, it was the ultimate luxury vacation experience.  I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy several 5-star resorts, but the personalized service on Windstar Cruises is unmatched.

It’s taken me a while to remember to write this, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who helped us that day as well as everyone who works so hard to make our Windstar vacations so memorable.  You’ve got such an amazing brand and we hope to sail on one of your ships again soon—looking at Ireland/Scotland this summer!

I’m a professional photographer and have added a gallery of some of the shots from our trip I’d like to share with you. “
